Sales Tax Calculator
Calculating…
Adding tax
Tax = price × rate ÷ 100 and total = price + tax. A $100 purchase at 7.25% has $7.25 of tax, for a total of $107.25.
Removing tax from a total
Divide the total by 1 plus the rate: $107.25 ÷ 1.0725 = $100. Do not subtract the percentage from the total, because the tax was calculated on the smaller pre-tax price.
Find your rate
Sales tax in the United States is a combination of state, county and city rates, and it changes by location. This calculator uses the rate you enter. Look it up on your state revenue department site or on a receipt from a local store.
